The biggest show of all is in the skies above and the Universe all around us.

.
The Cosmos is always moving, sometimes creating interesting alignments!
.

It’s only due to a fortuitous cosmic coincidence that our Sun and the Moon appear about the same size to us on Earth – that’s what makes total eclipses possible!
.
Why do the Sun and the Moon appear to be the same size in the sky?

This composite image, made from seven frames, shows the International Space Station, with a crew of six on board, as it transits the Sun at roughly five miles per second during a partial solar eclipse, Monday, Aug. 21, 2017 near Banner, Wyoming. A partial solar eclipse was visible across the entire North American continent. Photo Credit: (NASA/Joel Kowsky)

Over South Florida and the Everglades, a partial Solar Eclipse of about 75 to 80% was visible.

A bad omen? Not at all – Cosmic alignments are cool!
Historically Solar eclipses were often interpreted as signs or omens from the heavens by pre-industrial/scientific peoples.

Solar eclipse photography setup consists of a vintage SMC Pentax 1000mm reflex (mirror) lens fronted by a solar safety filter and backed with an APS-C camera.
.

When paired with the small sensor Pentax Q cam, the 1000mm lens gets a much closer view of the Sun at an equivalent 5600 millimeters!

August 21, 2017:
In South Florida and the Everglades, only a partial Solar eclipse of about 80% was visible.

All-sky 360 view of the 80% partial Solar eclipse. The sky was noticeably dimmer and had a later afternoon kinda feel for about 10 minutes or so.
.
At it’s peak, the sky dimmed, temperatures dropped a bit and my neighbor’s roosters started to crow.
Interesting crescent shaped shadows of the eclipse combined for a slightly eerie experience!
