Journey into the matrix of the very small!

What’s the RGB on my CRT ?

Actual live view ultra macro setup in front of my vintage CRT TV.

.
Nothing here to do with kayaking per se, unless you also happen to take digital pictures, look at your mobile device or computer screen, GPS unit or pretty much any modern image capture or display device. It has everything to do with imaging and therefore photography!
.
.
Digital color imaging is based on the three primary colors:
Red, Green and Blue.
Additive mixing of these three can simulate any color and hue that our eyes can detect, and is the basis for all display devices such as the one you’re looking at right now. Similarly, a Bayer filter array is commonly used in digital capture devices like smart phones and cameras.
.

Moving closer the shadow mask pattern pixel geometry becomes clearly visible!
.
In this case the subject is the screen of an old school analog TV set circa 1997. The kind like your grandma’s television! The technical term for that display technology is
Cathode Ray Tube.
It happens to have a very photogenic and almost mesmerizing matrix pattern of the Red, Green and Blue phosphors. Each tiny phosphor is less than half a millimeter in size! Other display technologies have similar patterns no matter the size. Smart phones with their tiny screens pack a ton of pixels in the display area, so those patterns are even smaller!
.

Closer still and everything starts looking like a matrix.
Almost like delving into a sub-atomic quantum world! 😉
.
Viewed up close, everything looks the same! However the colorful pattern yields a white light when viewed from a normal distance.
.

The three primary colors averaged out to an even intensity over a given unit of time.
This gives the illusion of white light from a normal viewing distance!
.
I achieved my goal of a clean shot of just the three of the primary colors. I don’t know what the magnification factor is, but I assure you it is very bigly! 😉
.
.
Mind = Blown? Maybe a little bit.
I’m really liking the results and hope you do too!
.

RGB is also the name of my K1 trainer fitness kayak because it is all white! 😮

Enjoy!
