South Florida experienced the wrath of hurricane Irma on September 9 to 11, 2017. The huge storm made a last minute shift to the west which meant that the east coast was spared it’s full fury. It was a very, very close call for us.

Not surprisingly, there weren’t many boaters out, just mostly tugs and freighters doing their jobs.

I was the only paddler out!

Outside kayak and canoe Hurricane IRMA storage made easy!

Hurricane Irma

is almost upon us here in South Florida!

.

Filling up your kayak with fresh water makes it several hundred pounds heavy and also creates an emergency water supply!

.

If you’re  wondering what to do with the kayaks or canoes you keep outside,

here’s an easy solution that also doubles as extra fresh water storage!

.

Aside from filling up the boats, another alternative could be to sink it in your swimming pool if you have one.

.

Simply fill up the boats with water from your garden hose!

.

Canoe and old kayak partially filled with water, the coming rains will certainly top it off!

.

No need to take up valuable space in your garage, shed or other structure!

.

Now you have more time to fill up that mini fridge! 😉

.

This works best for SOT plastic kayaks that are on level ground nestled up near a wall, structure or tree in a confined area.

Alternately, you can also sink the boat(s) to the bottom of your swimming pool!

.

Composite boats get stored indoors – Banana Boat, Red Rum & the Grey Ghost riding out the storm in the garage among other friends!
