Tall tales from the Everglades:

Act I

“Spiders, mangroves and Irma”

.

The full moon lights up the Everglades darkness ..

.

WARNING: This is not poetry!

.

I see things that go bump in the night ..

.

Things that fret about!

.

Spinning their webs, no doubt.

.

Thousands of spiders waiting for first light ..

.

To satisfy their appetite.

.

There are mangrove fingers that hold me tight!

.

But wait, I’m not ready to see all this light.

.

For I have my own appetite! 😮

.

Listening for any other signs of life ..

.

Surrounded by mangroves on every side ..

.

Notice them reaching for the sky!

.

They lie still in the early morning light ..

.

While other mangroves really like to walk about ..

.

As the arachnids cling on for dear life!

.

A twisted deadfall whispers about a hurricane that passed ..

.

Irma, they said was her name.

.

Leaving twisted wreckage was her game!

.

I survey a boneyard of roots ..

.

Yet still the mangroves grow new shoots.

.

From the water to the air ..

.

Mangroves and spiders know how to deal with despair!

.

And I finally see an exit, right over there.

.

Over to the right, yes this is the way out.

.

Out into the clear sunlight!

.

.
