One quiet afternoon, I was swinging in my hammock on the Johnson Key chickee in Florida Bay and enjoying the light breezes and wide panoramic views.

The square angles of the wooden structure nicely framed the water and sky, and also Man-o-war Key due south on the horizon.

My attention soon shifted to the inside railings of the structure.

“Art or bird shit message?”

There were these interesting text or script-like vertical designs created by gravity and the dripping bird shit over the wood grain.

“Guano graffiti”

The guano trails almost look like graffiti. Reading left to right, or right to left?

Are the birds sending us a coded message?

A sharp eyed reader has pointed out a close resemblance to Cirth script. That fictional script is based on the real Runic alphabets or Runes of pre-Christendom northern Europe.

Indeed, we may have cracked the code!

The birds do a lot of “business” out here on the chickee.

Maybe this is their thank you note?

Who knows!

That afternoon will not be soon forgotten however, and that is certain.

My camping clothes now have that certain permanent “hint of bird shit” to them!

It’s not unusual to see lots of bird poop on the platform, actually it is the norm.
