UPDATE NOTE:
Although half the chickee was burned down, as of fall 2013 it has been rebuilt already. However the Park was unable to build another toilet platform, so they placed in on one of the wings. This means the chickee is open for use, but it functions as a single (4 person capacity) – FYI!
.
In late spring of 2013 this chickee had burned down due to ‘user error’, so it is not quite like the pictures show anymore.

The Oyster Bay chickee camping platform in Everglades National Park is ideally positioned just off the Wilderness Waterway. It’s about 18 miles north of Flamingo via Whitewater Bay and thus makes an excellent first campsite for extended trips originating from Flamingo.

Oyster Bay chickee recently received a makeover with new “plastic” wood planks and roofing along with a brand-new toilet! If offers excellent backcountry accommodations and faces eastward into prevailing winds. It is situated right next to the mangroves, however, so no-see-ums will always get to you at dusk and dawn!
