This time we shall see our Milky Way arching overhead from remote destinations that have some of the darkest skies and best viewing in the Everglades. Inspired by Cosmos episode 7 – The Backbone of Night, by the late Dr. Carl Sagan, I will also include some of my favorite quotes from his books!

Summer’s almost gone .. Milky Way whole sky with Jupiter and Saturn on August 15, 2020 10:30pm.

To fully appreciate the Everglades sky viewing experience, it is worthwhile to paddle out to one of the remote backcountry campsites inside the Park, the Ten Thousand Islands or Florida Bay.
.
It’s easy to see why the Everglades has some of the darkest skies on the eastern seaboard. It’s as far away from all the lights as you can get!
.
The southwestern coastline along the Gulf of Mexico and down into Florida Bay is the farthest away from all the city light pollution.
.
Florida as seen from the ISS in orbit. You can’t completely get away from all the light pollution, but the Everglades is as dark as it gets on the east coast!
