Sweet little spot in the Ten Thousands Islands area. It also happened to be our New Years Eve campout with a side trip across Gullivan Bay to Cape Romano (but that’s another story). These photographs are from the north tip of the island. No permit required for camping here, and makes an excellent base camp for exploring the northern reaches of the 10 000 Islands!

For me it was great to meet and paddle with the good natured Watertribers including Toby aka “Whitecaps” who paddled up some 40 miles to meet up with us. Thanks to Marty aka “SaltyFrog” for the fresh fish!! Also a real pleasure to keep paddling pace with Warren Richey aka “SharkChow” who currently has the standing record for the 1200 mile around Florida Watertribe Ultra-marathon race and wrote a book about it ( “Without a Paddle: Racing Twelve Hundred miles around Florida by Sea Kayak” )

FYI, Whitehorse Key is about 14 miles one way from the Everglades City Ranger Station put-in via Indian Key Pass.
